Save Me from Dangerous Men A Novel Nikki Griffin Book 1 edition by S A Lelchuk Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
- This story is compelling and at times the narative and descriptions are entertaining, but there are some jolts such as when the reader learns Nikki's parents were killed when she was a child and left her with so much guilt. Gag me. I groaned again when Nikki surrendered to bad guys rather than shoot them when she had them out gunned, simply because they showed a picture of her brother. The dialogue in the fight scenes was sometimes unrealistic. The quality is not up to the $14.99 price of a edition if compared to Lee Child, John Sanford or Michael Connelly.
- Save Me from Dangerous Men was an outstanding read with an excellent main character and an engrossing mystery.
Nikki Griffin doesn’t usually take normal PI jobs, but instead focuses on tracking dangerous men who hurt the women they love and teaching them what it’s like to be hurt. Nikki’s goal is to ensure her clients are free from their abusers forever and Nikki is very good at her job. After she is offered a large cash payment to follow a tech company employee who may be selling secrets, Nikki finds it hard to pass up what looks like easy money. But after the life of the woman she’s following is threatened, Nikki is forced to reveal herself and she attempts to help the woman. When a rendezvous with the woman goes wrong, Nikki isn’t just trying to solve a case anymore, she’s trying to save her own life.
I found Nikki to be a fascinating main character and I was easily drawn in by her story, eager to know how she came into her line of work. After learning Nikki’s backstory, I understood why she did the work she did and I fully supported her endeavor. One aspect of her work that I found interesting was how Nikki tailored each job based on the experiences of the client. For example, if her client received a broken wrist from her abuser then Nikki made sure said abuser was given a broken wrist during her interactions with them. It was very much an eye for an eye mentality and I found myself supporting her brand of justice.
The work Nikki does for the tech client was quite different from her normal work but there was some overlap in the skills she used. Through her normal jobs, Nikki has become an excellent observer as she often needs to follow people for extended periods to learn their routines. Nikki relies heavily on her ability to observe while surveilling Karen and I found myself enjoying the different techniques she employed. Nikki had a few contacts that have helped her in the past and I enjoyed the supporting cast in this book as they’re all quite unique. The story did ultimately end up going in a few directions I didn’t expect and I was quite surprised by the ending as I had a different theory as to who was behind everything.
Overall I found Save Me from Dangerous Men to be an exciting read from start to finish with plenty of action to keep the plot moving. I highly recommend this book and I’m looking forward to reading more from the author in the future. - Every once in a while, I encounter a book that I want to digest slowly. Not skimming, not racing through - just absorbing and enjoying every word and sentence.
This is one of those books! The writing is impeccable and enveloping.
It is action-packed, exciting, and engrossing. I really felt invited into Nikki’s interesting world and was so happy to finally read a novel with a strong and courageous female protagonist.
As a woman, I have been disappointed with the dearth of powerful “I don’t give a dang†female characters. All we have is literature like “Sex and the City†and “Eat, Pray, Love,†where the main characters need to rely on constant male validation for success.
This is NOT one of those familiar tales! Nikki Griffin is a worldly, smart, and physically tough woman who is fighting injustice and unraveling conspiracies at the highest level.
I look forward to the next installment in the Nikki Griffin saga! - The protagonist, Nikki, is a bookstore owner by day and a private investigator by night. On the side, she helps abused women out of their relationships by teaching their husbands/boyfriends a lesson — beating them up and making sure they won’t lay another finger on a woman again. She’s tough, but far from heartless, and cares deeply about her family, friends and the women she saves.
As the novel progresses, we learn more and more about Nikki and her past the murder of her parents, her early life in foster care and how her brother became addicted to drugs. We see her struggle to love, as her relationship with a “normal†man named Ethan moves along. At the same time, Nikki becomes entangled in a job with a start-up tech company Care-4. She is hired by the CEO of the company to follow a woman, Karen, who is suspected to be stealing company secrets. As Nikki trails Karen, she learns that the problem is much bigger than one employee. It seems that Karen is also being followed by other people, and rumors of global terrorism are mentioned. The story takes a much darker turn from here, as Nikki attempts to unravel a mystery and avenge a woman who she failed to protect.
Lelchuck does a fantastic job creating his female lead; Nikki is fiercely loyal and has a deep sense of personal responsibility. She has a dark past, but now wants to find love, just like everyone else. She is a book-nerd at heart but can beat up bad guys to near-death. I fell in love with her from the start.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the setting in the heart of Silicon Valley. A Bay Area native myself, I loved the descriptions of the eclectic Berkeley streets contrasted with the ghettos of Oakland and hectic start-up life in Mountain View. Lelchuck describes these places with extreme attention to detail and deep understanding.
I’m very much looking forward to Nikki’s next adventure!
